A Salute - Welcoming Shri Rahul Gandhi

A solemn salute to welcome
Shri Rahul Gandhi
For donning the mantle of a leader of extreme calibre
Woven through years of struggle by renowned personalities
From the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and in succession by
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Shri Rajiv Gandhi and
Upheld in the same measure by Smt. Sonia Gandhi to be held aloft today by Shri Rahul Gandhi

The Indian National Congress or INC holds an unenviable record of having achieved a stunning victory for which it was formed. Constituted on 28th December, 1885 the INC committed itself wholeheartedly to enlist the support of natives with a specific purpose namely, to emancipate the nation and people from the clutches of foreign rule. As a sequel to this development, the national tricolour went up the mast at Lahore on a cold morning of 26th January 1930. The unfurling of the flag was carried out by none other than Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru himself.  That very same day INC was declared an independent and separate entity entrusted with a unique purpose of steering the nation out of a turmoil borne out of alien rule and domination of their motherland.

No individual, group or society, least of all the very natives themselves, would ever suffer their motheland to be held under fire or allow it to be gradually engulfed in to a conflagration.  This could not only jeopardize the rhythem of life for people and their descendants but was also fraught with serious repercussions for posterity.  Exploited and stripped clean of its colour and gait, the nation could no longer tolerate subjugation at the hands of foreign power which, in effect were intruders in to their motherland. Hitherto much had been sacrificed by way of dignity and lives.  Alien laws were thrust upon a people who were yet to earn a right to possession what to speak of freedom of breathing peace.  Centuries passed but to no avail.  The claimants to a land they were born and bread of were compelled to move around with fetters fastened to a yoke of suppression endured by them for centuries.  Indeed, when it came to living a life of their own, they were barred beyond torturous fetters.

It was therefore, imperative that India which saw much bloodshed including toll of lives of people entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding lives, territories or reputation of rulers, emperors, dynasties and kingdoms with hardly a breathing space within their own motherland made one last ditch effort to drive foreigners away.  This certainly called for a massive struggle for freedom and the entire nation was therefore, on their feet to snatch back or retrieve their motherland.  That was in the year 1857 when a spirited struggle for freedom from foreign rule gained ground and soon the rumbling started being felt beyond the periphery of closed doors and offices. It was then that a ray of hope seemed visible to a people groaning under age’s yoke.  What would otherwise have been deemed to be a farfetched dream for a nation that was struggling to be counted as an entity in a world of advancd knowledge, education and technology, all of a sudden came alive in unison, with vigor and determination to wrest control of the land from foreigners.  In a final thrust under the able leadership of eminent intellectuals and renowned men of caliber and under a newly constituted symbol namely the INC, a novel identity was established and people unitedly strained every nerve to the extent of embracing martyrdom and fought single handed setting aside all differences arising out of colour, creed, culture or language.

INC took the lead in the struggle which got a boost as Mohanadas Karamchamd Gandhi made a spectacular headway with his non-cooperation and civil disobedience movement through a massive and gigantic weapon namely “Non violence”.

No amount of weariness, hungar, scarcity or desolation could deter the invigorated and determined mob from procrastinating on the one only and immediate aspiration uppermost in their minds viz. liberation of motherland. This way everyone equivocally and under the able guidance and astute stewardship of a triumvirate namely Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Muhammed Jinnah took on the British rulers unmindful of what could have befallen their fate if per chance the then ruling elite came down heavily on them to quell the violence or set at naught their one only and common goal of freedom from foreign rule.  The people of India eventually realized that the stars were looking up and a goal they were after was well nigh and within their sight.  What was needed was a blind following of a leadership which professed vision and determination for reaching a culmination under an armed struggle of national importance.

Gandhiji assumed the leadership of Indian National Congress as President during the year 1921. Prior to his arrival on the Indian scenario the mahatma had successfully led two revolutions in South Africa to the delight of natives there. His arrival on the Indian scene was seen as a refreshing light in view of his educational background which enabled him to communicate freely with the British rulers. He actively participated in a Satyagraha in support of indigo farmers at Champaran and followed it up with another successful campaign against enhanced taxes and revenues imposed at Kheda in Gujarat. As President of INC he decided to revamp the organization with special focus on setting up offices in remote areas of the country. Simultaneously, he also outlined principles of Satyagraha whereby the membership of INC  started growing larger day by day.

Even so, there were teething problems which needed to be resolved major among them being factional hurdles with a random few among the activists resorting to extremist agenda.  Men who personified extremist tendencies within the consortium of people from all walks of life were Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai and Bipin Chandra Pal among others, who manifested tendencies which failed to match non-violent policies followed by Mahatma Gandhi.

Apart from a host of varying perceptions that posed a major challenge to braving the onslaught by British government in power, was the diverse culture that separated two warring religious majorities namely Hindus and Muslims whose rivalry had not abated for many centuries.  However, such internal vibrations could not in any manner pose hurdle for a nation that was beset with a dilemma of immense magnitude namely a hijack of its administrative machinery by foreign powers. Such indigenous problems could not in any manner deter the Indian National Congress from establishing a foothold firmly within farflung areas of an undivided India. Mahatma Gandhi was in full control of the outfit and party as its President, as well as fully competent to take on the British through his peace initiative and diplomatic strategies. Incidentally, the formation of INC and subsequent agenda followed by reforms set forth by Mahatma Gandhi had a chronology of events unfolding to the delight of an exuberant crowd spilling on the streets at the mere call of Mahatma Gandhi.

Riding high on the waves of an enthusiastic nation and an exuberant crowd ready to fall in the line of fire for the liberation of their country, Mahatma Gandhi sought to firmly establish his move against British by specifically working against caste differences, untouchability, poverty and religious and ethinc boundaries.  Although India was a predominantly Hindu nation, yet INC had within its membership people from every religion, ethnic group, economic and linquistic class.

There were surprises too for the INC as the newly appointed Viceroy to India namely Lord Irwin publicly favoured a dominion status for India and pushed for the issue to be discussed threadbare in London during 1930 and 1931.  However, neither of the conference could achieve a result beyond a halt on the question of religion.

Driven to the wall by an indomitable agitation by a high pitched populace and maddening crowd of undivided India, the British were left with no option but to bow before the wishes of natives and order a retreat.  Mahatma Gandhi achieved the impossible to the delight of a nation already plundered of its enormous resources and wealth.  The INC succeeded in achieving its end with resounding success and a jubilant Indian National Congress rode in triumph to the present day Parliament House for a victory celebration.  The calendar proclaimed it as the 15th day of August, 1947.  This way a nation was born out of the exploited culture through centuries of foreign rule.

The last Viceroy and first Governor General of independent Union of India namely Lord Mountbatten announced the partitioning of the British Empire in to India and Pakistan under the Independence Day Act, 1947.  On 26th January, 1950 India became a secular and democratic republic whereby a new Constitution was adopted.

The exit of British rule hearalded a new era in the archives of Indian history.  Not only did it throw open trade, industry and indigenous culture to flourish at the hands of natives, rather it even set the pace for progress and development of a by now partitioned India. However, all credit ought to go to the Indian National Congress which consortium of indigenous personalities made freedom a reality and set about by guiding the teeming millions of this vast sub-continent under the able guidance of those very architects of Indian Liberation movement.

For achieving independence, the INC held behind it a whole nation of enthusiastic men and women, dedicated to the core. That was during the forties.  Save for a few stray, scattered and insignificant number of opposition groups endorsing certain outdated, mutilated and uneven views and strategies that too concentrated mainly in the North, the entire nation was wholly united under one banner of forging a path towards the zenith of achievements. Indian National Congress became a force to reckon with and the party so projected became a symbol of oneness for many decades thereafter.

A pause is needed here!  One must not lose sight of the fact that the period of struggle was one of dedication, mutual trust and perseverance.  There is need also to remember that it was essentially an age of submissiveness not of compulsion which earned the nation a spectacular success. There was an air of Godliness, an environment of cooperation but above all there was a ray of faith, hope and charity within the minds of one and all.  It was a period when people realized the need to foster charity for one another – Charity that chimes out of a Christian refrain and which fosters love for one another. Till the time British ruled the nation, there was a monitoring apparatus namely ‘Faith – Hope & Charity’ for suppressing tempers arising out of high handedness by one group or the other be it even Hindu Muslim riots or similar uprisings.

The British left the country but left behind a legacy as well which was attributed to Christian charity that kindles within people of diverse faiths and culture a sublime sense of godliness or charity for one another. Incidentally, the refrain went on to inspire the nation and people for few decades thereafter till it faded in to a quagmire of ‘Hindustan’.  However, there is need to remember that a sense of brotherhood can seep in to people’s conscience only if they set aside their differences with regard to faith and worship, which in a society of diverse beliefs and religious cultures it amounted to asking for too much. The end result was that an enduring communal harmony was loath to come about.

In essence, it was that very same Christian refrain which bound people together and which ultimately rewarded the nation with what has hitherto been nurtured by the Indian National Congress or for short the Congress Party for imparting a human touch to people both young and old.  However, the multitudes or the masses outside Congress Party have long since forgotten the bind that kept them together for many centuries.

Immediately after achieving independence the mob which was uptill now united under one struggle till the time India was partitioned asserted its fragility of mindset, culture and reasoning.  To a people that fought together in an environment of Christian charity a new nomenclature was imposed by a people who knew no broad perspectives. They started indulging in grabbing and depriving their neighbor of what ought to have been the due of others by right.  Close on the heels of a hard fought battle for independence and in an environmnent of diverse people, culture and religion was fastened a new yoke of individuality namely ‘Hindustan’  This divide exposed a people that were corrupt to the core. It exposed the mentality of a majority who were starving for a new culture namely ‘corruption’.

Quite elementary though because left to themselves the ‘Indian populace is adept at grabbing enormous resources including wealth left behind by the British.  Fortunately though, after the British left India all the fortune of wealth and resources came to them in abundance.  It was like raining divine manna straight out of the heavens. People neither expected nor were they worthy of such bounty bestowed on them with so hot a fortune, that too in abundance. Individuals and groups prospered, development soared all around, education gave them a boost and they the Indian masses came to be acquainted with what extra comfort and luxuries the world had in store for them. Resultantly, people started stepping up their ambitions till finally an ecstasy of having attained a hard fought freedom receded in to the horizon of a fading memory.  And in its place emerged a sudden jolt which made people and individuals disagree with one another.

The well to do and more influential among the ones that inherited large fortune started exhibiting a show of arrogance.  These many started antagonizing the good that was being carried out by the dedicated men and women of yesteryears. A split was imminent because the more arrogant ones began to find loopholes within a system so carefully nurtured by the INC.  The long and short of it all is that with democracy throwing up a multiparty set up, there was room enough for unscrupulous people to hide their monstrous visage and assert their individuality through manipulation at various levels.  This way there came about a division among people, in their views, attitude and above all a psyche that promoted extremism of a political kind namely ‘corruption’.

A state of disagreement began to creep in and divisions started showing up in a people who reverted to perversity and corruption.  A new found craze to rename places started goading the minds of a people who were lavishly bestowed with unexpected wealth, luxury and comfort. A state of extravaganza made them lax in their commitments and blunt to the responsibility they took upon themselves through a Constitution which merely became an instrument that ensured the setting up of government which was to gift them a life of comfort while the government danced to people’s tune for serving their ends.  The new set up prompted the masses to scale heights above the elected government unmindful of the role they were required to perform.  In short a period of unscrupulousness and corruption took the nation by surprise.

A nation that was an outcome of chaste dreams nurtured by its national leaders right from Mahatma Gandhi, Jawahar Lal Nehru onwards followed by his daughter Late Smt. Indira Gandhi and thereafter, her son Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi in sequence, and as cherished by worthy leaders of a large nation, became objects of smear campaign let loose by mean and narrow-minded people of little fame.

Rather than upholding a sublime gift of independence achieved through hard fought struggle by the Indian National Congress was squandered away for mean objectives by people and elements that had their own irons in the fire. Parties grew up in numbers and leaders who gained a voice among restless and unscrupulous elements started flourishing to dictate terms to a government and people of eminence, as a result of which the government including dedicated and prominent people  of eminence had to succumb to dictates by these hoodlums in their bid to make a niche for themselves at the cost of the nation, its people and the lofty ideals for which the nation stood.  India which acquired a dedicated and charismatic leader in Smt. Sonia Gandhi was not spared either, rather even she was pelted with aspersions at will by people who managed to head a party or group, to the detriment of her own reputation as also of the party and folks she herded all through right from Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi’s demise.  All these made a dent in the image of a nation that was already at its zenith of achieving recognition among world powers.

Despite all odds, a dedicated Smt. Sonia Gandhi held on to her position in the interest of the nation and party.  All the glory and reputation achieved through years of struggle withered away due to selfish and partisan attitude by people whose only outlook was to achieve personal fame.  Howver, Smt. Indira Gandhi was resolute in her struggle to uphold values and reputation of the country.  In order to create a nitche for themselves each in his own narrow way chose to slam outright the Indian National Congress, its leaders and people within the government. The outcome of this fall out by narrow minded elements is what the present day parties portray in the break away groups under the style of BJP, RJD, BJD, BSP, DMK, ADMK and what have you?  These parties and people under similar outfits are presently basking in the shade of their own petty and mean minded interests not trustworthy for a nation that is galloping towards an age of superior glow and resonance.  The very nation which grouped under the Indian National Congress to carry the nation forward has broken away for self esteem and self projection on account of their mean minded attitude.

The present day parties and leaders who merely promote themselves under the guise of ‘politics’ are poles apart from what the leading figures of yesteryears had expected of them and for which they had laid down their lives. The unknown author of the quote “some give freely, yet grow all the richer; others withhold what is due, and only suffer want” says it all!

Immediately after achieving independence, the nation had to occupy itself with national priorities which included among others to tame people into subordination, shed their barbarity and streamline a process that had to equal standards of an already advanced world.  But even as the process of chalking out remedial measures to set the wheels of the nation on rails, the country was overtaken by the threat of an ominous war that loomed large in the horizon, precisely the next door neighbour.

If therefore, Indian National Congress be epitomized as the elite of the honest and righteous people who steered the Indian subcontinent then, then there is more than reason for the people to repose their faith in the one only consortium of like minded people (read INC) who have hitherto strained their every nerve to make India a vibrant power to take on the world. Incidentally an independent nation that managed to survive many devastating catastrophes, menacing wars, threatening civil strifes and shattering internal confrontations is due to celebrate its platinum jubilee a decade or so hence, all of which go to the credit of the Indian National Congress.  The INC has consistently served the nation keeping in mind the interest of diverse regions, communities and people.  However, spreading canard or alleging aspersions on people who dedicated their lives and service for the people and nation is by itself an act of extreme discourtesy.

Moreover, most allegations are blown out of proportion to belittle that particular individual, unkindly targeted to allow hooting and clapping by ignorant street urchins, merely to elate oneself or to be projected by those very street urchins as saviors or applauded as gods or goddesses of a modern day world of crime and criminality. Yea, why not categorize these gods and goddesses as belonging to an unblemished category of divine perfection?  And these divinely appointed spirits forget for a while that those people whom they target are human being first, elected representatives next, people who dedicated their lives for the service of the nation in sequence besides being sons and daughters of the same soil as of today, sons & daughters of other human beings as well.  And for a split second these divine spirits even forget that the people they target have not deserted their posts, position, homes or the country.  What transpires thereafter is a spate of abusive gossips emerging from streets and corners of an otherwise dignified nation, with detest of the very people elected to represent the nation with dignity by the same street urchins by use of abusive reference to people who hold or hitherto held the reins of a country that millions of countrymen did elect with a mandate to govern the nation under a Constitution adopted by all on 26th January, 1950.

Moreover, many of the allegations which do the round targeting these respectable, honest and dedicated men or women of caliber and reputation would have been blown out of proportion to hit where it hurts most.   Allegations that are seasoned, nursed to abusive limits, slept over for days to stretch them to areas of inaccessible untruth but above all jumbled up to compel a person to despair out of frailty or human finiteness.  Allegations which overwhelmingly rely on surmises, allegations which mostly arise out of casual hearsay, trumped up canard, or unauthenticated gossips.  As a matter of fact these allegations are cooked up to deliberately add leverage to gossips without any definite knowledge of what has transpired during the period of service put in by those elected representatives of people.

These hooded elements spearheading accusations even forget that their acts solely smear the image of the nation, people or their achievements to levels of profanity and unthinkable sacrilege.  They also need to realize the sensitivity of issues which touch not only the nation, its outlook, its image and acceptability by the world but also to give due consideration to the spill over of such accusations which would not go down well with the ordinary, ignorant and uneducated people on the streets, who would least be competent to grasp the intricacies of allegations being floated by people who arrogantly exhibit a show of indisputable integrity.

India is essentially a divided lot.  There can hardly be a consensus on any issue without allowing largesse to an opponent.  This holds equally good in all matters, be it on the streets, in business establishments or even on political platforms. As a matter of fact India is a unique country which carries with it an appaling picture of diversity in every sphere such as its culture, language, traditions, religious beliefs etc.  So why not on the issue of rumor mongering with the endangered topic called corruption?

Certain statistics stun the opposition. Some even stun the nation. However, all statistics stun the power hungry and starving lot among the opposition all. Even so, history will please the righteous citizens and people of a 1.3 billion nation who have within them the sublime truth and confidence in a government that is functioning to its very best.

INC or the Indian National Congress (1885-2012) which heads the UPA government at the Centre is the one only national party – repeating – the one only national party which has never altered its name, profile, agenda or its dedication.

INC is the only national party which has been associated with the greatest and renowned leaders of a free India since last 62 years before independence and 65 years after independence.

INC is the only national party which has never diluted its charisma, its ideology, its ideals, its dedication and its unique status be it within the party, within its leadership, within the nation or outside it.

However, the recent record breaks even the backbone of the opposition, that the communal party in connivance with Hazare, Ramdev and a few power hungry leading figures attempted to flay the alleged flaws within the government. They nevertheless, had to beat a retreat and break up in to fragments. The fragments then retreated in to the backyard of their own realm of greed and corruption to decide whether to enlist themselves under a political outfit or to wag on till the master noticed its movements.

Rumour mongering like backbiting, spitefulness and vengeance is a common vice among all people of diverse societies or groups.  However, alleging things or flinging aspersions on individuals, groups or government as have been reportedly overheard through hearsay or public gossips amount to a grave crime in a society which is bound by a government, law and judiciary.

Corruption is a state of moral perversity or eroded equilibrium which could as well be described as a hate campaign to defame someone else.  People who hoard money over themselves do so with a view to projecting themselves heads above others and the nefarious ways they achieve this end is a culmination of how base an Indian mindset can be.  Out of a culture of oneness that started during the freedom struggle emerged a vicious mindset bent on looking down upon others with scorn and detest.  And India like many other countries has joined the bandwagon with least regard for ethics-manners & etiquette or discipline in public or private lives.  In short the British held on to the Christian refrain of Charity and Love, which got transformed in to a state of animal wisdom or jungly culture.

Corruption does not necessarily require wealth to become victim of greed. Corruption is an innate tendency to hate another in to suppression.  In effect it amounts to a liberation struggle of a peculiar kind viz. a struggle  to build up that which one gained out of someoneelse’s magnanimity and here that magnanimity refers to the decision of British to say to themselves in all humility ‘enough is enough’.

The adage “sufficient for the day is the evil thereof” took its first ever toll after the undivided India was partitioned in to Pakistan including East Pakistan or present day Bangladesh on the one hand and an India of the present day era on the other.

We must keep in mind the fact that only people with corrupt mentality, corrupt dealings and fully acquainted with what corrupt structure means alone would cry hoarse pointing finger at others. But people who are truly just or righteous will only think in terms of reforming a people, society or nation.  This is the one only attitude to redeeming the misguided on to a mainstream category of people. Spearheading falsehood or spreading canard about individuals is a sign of despair in their resolve to reform through peaceful means.  Law needs to catch up with such attitude which amounts to hooliganism under the hood of democratic agitation.

The country is very much on rails and no amount of rocking carried out by the communal elements in tandem with regional parties and disgruntled elements can derail the government or the nation.  The present government under Indian National Congress has been doing the nation proud but someone needs an unbiased mind and that crucial intellect to decide and be convinced as to which way the country is developing and fast.

Much more remain to be said on Emergency, War and Corruption. They definitely will come in installments.  But never forget the fact that the nation is a crowd of more than 1.3 billion and for taking the teeming millions on an onward journey ahead, the nation must speak in one voice and be guided with one only hand namely the Indian National Congress! To be continued…………………. Cheerio, Bye!

  1. Ever since the UPA government started its term during 2009 there has been eeriness mostly among the opposition parties but to a great extent even among the communal elements including RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sena and what have you? Reason – that they would have to wait for a long span of five years before they could make a dart to scratch around for regaining power center.

Restlessness among political parties is quite obvious as it is the only platform that they can vie for a position of fame or reputation. Moreover, the Indian public mostly made up of communal outfits and disgruntled elements cannot be easily bought with soothing words. They would want a bargain to replenish their private treasuries.

We have a functioning government unlike that of the communal one, which while in power from 1998 to 2004, had engaged itself swaying between national priorities and communal organizations. It was a pretentious government that was manipulated by communal forces like RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sene and their like. The short break of 6 years at the centre tripped the national priorities and after the present government stepped in, with the help of a fractured coalition, the UPA made its mark felt by people and institutions alike, the statistics of which are there for everyone to see.

But everyone has an eye for fame or reputation. And Hazare or such like minded people are no different either. But the manner in which the UPA government has had to eke out some form of respite from restless people making a beeline to shadow the limelight has been not only eroding the name and fame of the nation but even robbing the Parliament of its smooth functioning. Merely picking out names of people, officials and members within the government and flinging aspersions of corruption on any particular politician does not augur well for a nation aspiring to be a super power contender. The present government is fully active and where instances of corruption does surface, necessary action to rectify the area is being carried out with loyalty and dedication.

It needs to be emphasized that the UPA government at the centre is active and decisive with firm will to establish a corruption-free society. However, there are hurdles that need to be tackled through legal procedures and by keeping the prestige of the nation in mind. There are also areas which need to be kept aloof from prying eyes of foreign countries or other Issues which need to be preserved from ordinary public. Thereafter, to clear the hassles and ridding the nation of evil forces at work, will need to be done cautiously without stepping on to the rights and privileges of people at different levels.

India is a vast country with diverse culture, religious beliefs followed by a communally charged people who would not settle for anything less than a strike at places where it hurts most.

It is therefore, of paramount importance that parties and individuals who are baying for the blood of people in position or power need to exercise caution before attempting to undo the freedom achieved after a hard fought battle of wits and diplomacy.

  2. My salute to the Muslim community and their brethren in India or abroad. A salute to all Muslims who were made to bear the brunt of Hindu fanaticism for ages. Salute to those Islamic followers who were forced to distance themselves from a ‘Hindustan’ of Hindu fanatics who were labeled enemies of a nation that failed to accept them as honourable citizens of a free India, a people who have been labeled as extremists (or be it even a slur as “Dawood Gang”) for the convenience of a majority community. My undaunted and everlasting salute to all Muslims of this free nation called ‘Hindustan’!

It needs to be asserted emphatically that Muslims are an integral part constituting a second majority with every right to live a life of peace as enshrined in the Preamble of a Constitution of India that was adopted on 26th January, 1950.

This piece has been written keeping in mind the grave injustice meted out to this section of our brethren who have been very unkindly singled out for heaping canard and allegations, insult and injury or devastation and death. People of India need to hang their heads in shame for such attitude or lack of attitude whereby honest and upright citizens of Muslim origin of a free India have been made to suffer ignominiously through no fault of theirs.

Without providing a narrative of instances of brutality and criminal neglect endured by them, this writer as a true Catholic must assert with all firmness that Muslims have always respected places of worship and never indulged in arson, looting or breaking up of such holy places, be it church or temple etc. But what have they received in return? Scorn and detest of the extreme kind! God forgive a communally charged ‘Hindustan’.

This writer, while whole-heartedly appreciating their grievances, wish to lay down a special and personal appeal that the elite Muslims who distanced themselves from the nation and are living outside the country out of fear or panic, should set aside all of the torture & criminal victimization endured by them at the hands of Hindu fanatics by forsaking their grudges, forgetTing the past and fall in line with their brethren by returning to mainstream life and living a life of peace and harmony with the entire Muslim fellowship including other communities with the blessings of the Almighty.

  3. The nation emerged strong in the face of backlash by its own adversaries and the most stumbling block of adversary was the opposition and a select group of communal elements in the form of RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal, Shiv Sena, Ram Sena and you name it, there was no dearth of them. Emergency imposed on the nation by Smt. Indira Gandhi heralded the emergeance of a nation out of the shadows of militancy (sponsored by the then opposition), Jayaprakash Narayan included and other disgruntled elements which list also includes the then George Fernandez and his accomplices. Militancy by these elements working against the force of the nation and welfare of people gave teeth to communalization of society, young and old. It even sawed the seed of hatred among the majority community against minorities consisting of Christianity, Muslims etc. This militancy allowed sessation of harmony and operation blue star came about which was much needed to nip in the bud the sikh frustration to saw the seed of disintegration. In the thick of confusion the real issues got faded and became so to speak irredeemable to be dealt with. What dominated the scene was an air of opposition backing all that could send the nation to chaos. The world was yet to come abreast of many of the sophisticated medium required to educate the then public. Students’ unrest apart there was largescale arson, looting and criminality.

70’s was a dark period in the history of the nation. People were disillusioned with the ongoing strikes, hartals, arson, loot, destruction of government buildings, property, apparatus, the democratic machinery founded so strong through years of struggle and so on. What could the government do when people left to themselves take to destructive tendencies for demanding democratic fulfillment for enhancement of salaries and such or similar demands. INC stood upright in the face of it all.

The then leaders bore with the brunt of public menace. Even great stalwarts of political forum stood to oppose the government and leaders. Indian National Congress could not be browbeaten by people with hardly a sense of national upkeep. It was the staunchest of efforts put in by Congress Party of now as well as then that managed to outlive chaos and barbarity. What need we more to eulogise the architecture of Indian National Congress?

  4. Corruption does not exist. Even if it does, it does not deserve so much of upheaval for public to take to streets because the country is united with an elected government at its helm, having its reins in the hands of people whose forefathers achieved it the freedom and laid the foundation for a strong India under the auspices of Indian National Congress. The voice of the nation, its resolve, its determination is resolute and no amount of poking fun of the government or its leaders would hamper the nation’s progress.

To be precise ‘corruption’ in form and manner as is portrayed by some freak minded individuals, crying shrill by roadside shows or in open-air conclaves ought to be seen as a vain attempt to browbeat a fully determined government. All the hue and cry about corruption alleging it to be eroding a nation like India is mere myth.

However, in order to tackle this pestilent menace, the government needs to get going by setting the law enforcing agencies on the trail of these haphazard elements who keep disturbing the peace of the nation, people and the government. Fail these rumor mongers, stand with the government to find even traces of such minor evil evaporate in to thin air.

Arrogant and vicious men with hardly any trace of conviction within might disturb the peace of the nation and people. These elements are never trustworthy especially for a huge nation like India.

Corrupt people never portray any arrogant trait within them. It needs to be borne in mind that the corrupt or arrogant ones are those who keep rumour mongering by crying ‘wolf – wolf’ for that which does not even exist in quantum it is made out to be. These moves by unworthy elements is all an outcome of frustration by maniacs who cannot afford a solution to minor evils that creep up within any group or society. However, flinging aspersions on an elected government or standing on mid road to blurt or point fingers at people who have made innumerable sacrifices for the nation is essentially a sign of mental deficit. Whereas truly honest and uncorrupt people will get down to reforming even traces of evil within a society only through dedication and peaceful methods.

  5. Corruption does not exist. There is no corruption and all talk of corruption is a myth. I repeat with emphasis – there is no corruption as is made out and in the measure some stray, blunt and ignorant elements want to portray the nation to be in. Does this sound Greek to some?

The nation was never free from chaos, turmoil or incidents causing enormous hardships to public, highhandedness, nefarious activities, atrocities, brutalities & butcheries, wars, catastrophes, natural calamities, besides murders, kidnap for ransom, hijack, criminal assault, loot, theft, burglary, extremism, cross-border terrorism, civil strife, communal riots, dowry deaths, rape of innocents, plunder by people, tax evasion, snatching and pickpockets, theft of vehicles, arson, labour unrest, hoarding of essential commodities, pilferage of items, marketing day to day items & essential commodities at exorbitant rates – and what have you?

Nevertheless, India never forsook its development plans, activities and programs. The government did not ever throw up its hands fed up of the anarchy and chaos committed by its own people. It did not blame the citizens and people who stood to benefit from the progress the nation was making through unstinted efforts of a government that was awake to people’s problems. Today the same nation is capable of hoisting Common Wealth Games, Asiad and like events which project the nation as a force to reckon with.

All the developments took place at the behest of a party nurtured to its existence by people of eminence, dignified people who had a dream to see India on top of the world map. However, the country was never free from high-handedness by vested interests by people who savoured freedom yet preferred luxury and comfort to commitment and hard work.

People who lived for more than 60 years – this writer included - and watched the nation progress steadily by huge strides, step by step, are witnesses to a dream being logically fulfilled. Years of yearning by renowned and dignified people of eminence who streamlined a path to climax and had the nation bloom in the horizon of a new dawn, a new age and a new era with minutely planned strategy for development as also reared up noble minds to handle the overall political realm of a free India are never devoid of statistics.

  6. India which was originally projected as an ‘under-developed country’ and with the passage of time came to be eventually referred to as ‘undeveloped’, today this very nation stands heads high above most nations having qualified to be a super power contender. All this occurred at the behest of a national party, which churned out a direction for a people who hardly measured up to attaining basic education and know-how. As of today the nation owns a novel vision, a novel vista and a novel periphery to include the world in its reckoning. Do not these aspects show India in a new light quite ahead of the reach of the existing twenty-first century?

The nation could not have progressed this far, had the country been under a spell of corruption by its own people as some blunt elements want to convey to public on the roadside. As a result of these blurts by blunt elements whose utterances carry neither a reason nor rationale, a parallel system has been created to the detriment of an elected government at its helm with a tremendous set back to the progress the country is making. All the cry that is available from the public as of today is about ‘corruption’ the essence of which does not exist at all. It all just boils down to mere humbug.

No. Within the soul of the nation, within the government manned by Congress Party in alliance with regional outfits, there is truly no corruption. Their minds are focused with a determined resolve to keep corruption, if any, at bay. But the indulgence by public under the hood of opposition, communalists, extremists and criminals tend to undermine the efforts put in by human beings within the government and the end game by public within gain the edge over facts or truth. When the custodians of people’s rights themselves come under fire or onslaught from a rampaging public or one might put it as parallel extremism straight from the road, the focus loses its grip and the nation has to take the beating for a fault committed by public themselves. No, I still emphasize with strictness & clarity that corruption does not exist – rather public menace does.

  7. How Advani and party are finding is suffocating to keep sitting in the opposition is already known to the country’s 1.3 billion. But the way they keep repeating the chorus is quite odd and not becoming of the stalwarts of BJP and allies. Just take the case of recent bandh called by NDA and their regional outfits.

“Bharat Bandh” by the NDA constituents and regional parties was an utter failure. In fact it came immediately after the communal party attempting to stall the functioning of Parliament and demanding the resignation of PM. And even those unruly elements burning the effigy/photo of the PM of a large democracy does not depict any sense. It only amounted to people raping innocents and walking away as if nothing happened.

Even by its very nature, a bandh is always a flop in view of it being a deliberate attempt to force government or people in to submission. This amounted to failure of the great stalwarts of the opposition who could not outwit the government on the floor, so they took him on in the street, in the melee stamping on the empty bellies of the poor and ordinary people.

If the people and country have any shame left, let them rise in revolt against the NDA constituents but in a special way the BJP who deemed it fit to side with the disgruntled elements within and without to take to streets after having failed within the parliament in blocking the functioning of Parliament and Government deemed fit to disgrace the government, for the world to see.

Does it prove sensible for an opposition taking to the streets and burning the photo of a Prime Minister of the nation who was elected out of the 1.3 billion citizens of a democratic country? If at all Dr. Man Mohan Singh was that detestable as to disrespect the person in him, then what made these rats stay calm when he was elected to the post.

The country is very much on rails and no amount of rocking carried out by the communal elements in tandem with other regional and disgruntled elements can derail the government or the nation. The present government under Indian National Congress has been doing the nation proud but someone needs an unbiased mind and intellect to decide which way the country is developing and fast.

  9. A brief but stern warning to Arvind Kejriwal from India against unbecoming, corrupt or reckless allegation or accusation.

Kejriwal is creating a fear psycosis within the wealthy and influential people and making room for them to hide their wealth, assets etc.

This man, Arvind Kejriwal ought to be whipped out of the national capital Delhi. There is no place here for hoodlums whose only lookout is to tarnish the image and focus of righteous and unsuspecting individuals who are descendants of a royal family of repute and an independent India catering to over 1.3 billion people. It is only due to the enormous contributions and sacrifices made by the forefathers of these families that India today stands tall in every aspect of world renown. The works and architecture of these very families and the star-studded Indian polity already stand recorded within the archives of yesteryears. Therefore, on no account should any name or personality of such or similar rank be dragged in to controversies and made an object of mirth and laughter for unruly elements within or outside the nation. Moreover, such ruffians who deem it their right to spill venom against people of high category ought to know that they are today what they are on account of selfless sweat and precious blood shed by people of extreme caliber and reputation. All glory and honour that India today stands to claim are outcome of the unstinted labour and tireless efforts put in by individuals whose names this blinking bull of Arvind Kejriwal has opted to demean today.

This narrow-brained Kejriwal is burning the national identity, the theme, the soul and in a stunning context burning the national flag by allowing his filthy brain to slam reckless allegations and accusations on people who had earlier as well as today hold the reins of a nation and its realm. His targeting with such reckless allegations straight out of his narrow-minded brain is sending wrong signal among unsuspecting public where these allegations are working to arouse their petty grouse against wealthy and influential people. Kejriwal needs to know that people in high places or in government are indeed royal citizens of a free India whose forefathers rendered endless sacrifices for the liberation and upkeep of the country and whose families did shed their sweat and blood without caring for the outcome or for their own safety and happiness. As suchm, for no reason whatsoever should these glittering personalities of yesteryears should be made a victim of public focus without such allegations having been verified or established. He ought to know that any prosperity or fortune having been left behind by renowned stalwarts of yesteryears for their younger descendants to lead a peaceful life ought not be made a target by mean minded people like Kejriwal to be blown apart to smithereens the manner he desires.

  10. Such accusations or reckless allegations may even amount to burning the national flag or deliberately making the family members of a royal echelon being dragged in to controversies which mar the actual image of people and nation. His blunt mind ought to also know that the entire nation and the world are viewing such hasty allegations coming straight out of his mean intellect allowing the public to go on rampage in respect of a powerful nation or sons of the soil as the case may be. In effect the mad bull is using democracy to belittle people as if they were his property or an object of scorn.

This rat is charging like mad bull at places where he ought not tread. The masses are a witness to days of prosperity when a Re.1 would have fetched a sack full of wheat or rice. But with the change of times the expenses did climb up which could not possibly be expected to remain static. If electricity bills have reached exhorbitant levels, there is as much reason that somewhere these very public failed to bridle their own mouths and got the government err while the public made hay with their own highhandedness.

When CM Shiela Dixit off and on exhorted people of Delhi to preserve water and not waste it for washing car or gardening purposes, she knew what she was uttering. If the world one day finds drinking water scarce, no amount of slamming people or accusing authorities would fetch people water. In the nation or the world goes famished or parched, the responsibility for such a situation would be squarely on the shoulders of people who act reckless like Kejriwal. In the event of the country going short of water no amount of beating the breasts would provide an alternative and the responsibility for such a situation would lie on the like of Kejriwal.

  12. During the earlier period after independence, democratic right came to be utilized unscrupulously, so much so factory workers and government employees were in the habit of laying down work to demand high wages and related facilities. This trend went on for many decades. Today the average quantum of work especially after the introduction of computer in to government offices is meager but the salaries drawn by officers and staff are exhorbitant. All this was the result of unscrupulous utilization of right to demand under the democratic set up. Today if corruption has become rampant everywhere, it is as a result of people like Arvind Kejriwal who go on manipulating or demeaning the system put in place by an elected government. If the government employees are earning hefty amounts or a fortune so to speak besides other perks, it is the government that would have to pay salaries and benefits to government employees. This requires money and it was to drive down this point that the PM had rightly said “money does not grow on trees”. And he was indeed right. If people waste their brain recklessly like this hoodlum here is doing presently then there is no wonder why discipline could ever shine over the nation. Democracy gave voice to public to demand and the masses did what pleased them. Today the government is to pay the sky-rocketting wages for the government employees, which if not disbursed in time would find the same government employees agitating on the streets, breaking government properties or committing arson, loot etc. In effect, the government has become a mere tool in the hands of reckless and rash elements. And in this category falls the present hoodlum showering in mayhem and confusion while the mad public goes on the rampage. Is there a logic slamming people merely because they possess wealth earned through years of sweat? Does this hoodlum realize that people who may have made money at least did not run around with AK47 looting or shooting down people to fill their bank accounts? Kejriwal needs to ponder.

The present attitude by Kejriwal may be termed as animal wisdom though essentially it amounts pig-sty culture.

The least that the authorities can do with this man Arvind Kejriwal is to whip him out of the capital which has become a citadel for him to let go his whims.
